HOW TO CREATE A FACEBOOK ACCOUNT

Facebook is a popular social media Web site that allows friends and family members to stay connected through status updates, photos and private messaging. Obtaining a Facebook account is free and is a simple process to complete. Once registered, you can begin creating your profile and networking with people who already have Facebook accounts.

Step 1

Open a Web browser and go to the Facebook homepage.

Step 2

Fill out the brief sign-up form on the Facebook homepage to create your free account. To register, you will need to enter your name, email address, password, gender and birthday. Although you must include your birth date on the sign-up form, you can exclude this information from your personal profile if you wish.

Step 3

Confirm your account by clicking on the confirmation link sent to the email address you provided in the sign-up form. Once confirmed, your account will be active.

Step 4

Accept friend requests from those who have previously invited you to join Facebook. You can use the Facebook Friend Finder to find people you know based on your email contact list. By providing your email address and email password, Facebook will search your contacts and match their email addresses with other Facebook users who you may want to befriend.

Step 5

Fill out your profile information. You can include as much or as little information as you want, including your birthday, contact information, work history, education and personal likes and dislikes. All of this information is optional, and you may opt to leave it blank if you prefer.

Step 6

Add a profile picture to accompany your profile page. This picture will also accompany each status update that you post to your wall. This photo can be of anyone or anything you like, as long as it doesn't violate Facebook's regulations regarding inappropriate content.

Step 7

Edit your account information at any time by clicking on the "Edit My Profile" link on your profile page. Here you can make changes to all of your visible profile information and update your profile picture. To make changes to your privacy or account settings, click on the "Account" button" in the upper menu bar of your Facebook page. This is where you can control who sees your information, manage your notifications and set up Facebook on your mobile phone.
